Ingredients
  1. Country Chicken / Nattu Kozhi - 1 kg
  2. Indian Sesame Oil / Nala Ennai / Gingelly oil - 1/2 cup
  3. Shallots / Sambar Onion - 15 chopped
  4. Curry leaves - 2 springs
  5. Ginger Garlic paste - 2 tblspn ( Click here for recipe)
  6. Tomatoes - 2 large chopped
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Chilli powder - 1 tblspn or to taste
  9. Coriander powder / Malli podi - 2 tblspn
  10. Turmeric powder / Manjal podi - 1 tsp
  11. Tamarind Pulp - 3 tblspn
  12. Coriander Leaves / Cilantro a handful
For Roasting & Grinding
  1. Whole Pepper - 1 tsp
  2. Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tblspn
  3. Fennel Seeds / Sombu / Saunf - 1 tblspn
  4. Cloves /Krambu - 6
  5. Cinnamon / Pattai - 1 small stick
  6. Shallots / Sambar Onion - 10 left whole
  7. Oil - 1 tblspn
For Grinding
  1. Coconut - 1 cup
  2. Poppy Seeds / Kus Kus / Kasa Kasa - 2 tblspn
Instructions
  1. Heat 1 tblspn oil in a kadai. Add in the ingredients give for roasting and grinding list and saute for 5 mins on low flame. Now remove this to a blender and make into a fine puree. Set this aside till use.
  2. Take coconut and poppy seeds in a blender and make into a fine puree.Set this aside till use.
  3. Take a large kadai. Heat oil in it.
  4. Add in chopped shallots, curry leaves, ginger garlic paste and saute for a couple of mins.
  5. Now add in tomatoes and saute for 5 mind till they turn mushy.
  6. Add in salt, add the spice powders and saute for a min.
  7. Add the chicken in and mix well with the masala.
  8. Add in water, tamarind pulp and bring it to a boil Cover the pan and simmer it for 15-20 mins till the chicken is 3/ 4 th done.
  9. Now add in the onion masala, coconut masala and mix well.
  10. Cover the pan again and simmer for 30 mins.
  11. Add in lots of coriander leaves and mix well.
  12. Serve with rice.
